George Kren

1926 - 2000

George was born in Linz, Austria and came to America in 1939 at the age of 13. He served in the US Army from 1944-1946. He received his BA from Colby College in Waterville, ME. His Masters and Doctorate degrees where from the University of Wisconsin. He was a professor at Kansas State University from 1965 to 2000. He also taught at Oberlin College in Ohio; Elmira College in New York; Lake Forest College in Illinois; and at Roosevelt University in Chicago. He was most focused on history, psycho-history, and especially the holocaust. He took up photography in 1977. The photos in the Emprise collection are from a series taken between 1973 and 2000 of Kansans connected to the arts. He passed away in 2000 in Manhattan, KS.
