Holly Stevenson

Holly Stevenson

Holly Stevenson's work is characterised by its focus on the question of 'what does it mean to visualise the promise of a good time?' Stevenson deploys collage processes to upend notions produced within economies of happiness. Since the 1950s agencies of persuasion have aggressively adopted photographic technologies and misued psychoanalysis in order to develop a standardisation of visual cultures, this pursuit is reflected most clearly in the form of advertisment. In her current work, Stephenson is exploring a double sided, resilient and submissive explerience of la promesse du bonheur, as something constructed around quixotic photographic processes and decorative totems.
