Jean-François Millet

(1814 - 1875)
Millet received his first instruction in art from Langlois, at Cherbourg, and obtained a grant from the Municipal Council to enable him to continue his studies in Paris. He entered the studio of Delaroche, where fellow pupils included Diaz and Rousseau. He first exhibited at the Salon in 1840.
