Nick 'Topper' Headon

Nick 'Topper' Headon

1955 - Present

Topper was nicknamed as such by his fellow band members thanks to his resemblance to Micky the Monkey in the Topper comic; he joined The Clash in 1977. He’d been playing drums since childhood and was a huge fan of jazz giant Billy Cobham. Topper Headon’s extraordinary playing is credited as transforming The Clash from a four-to-the-floor punk outfit into leading rock stars. Not only is he a master at holding down the beat, but he is also a gifted musician and songwriter, best shown on one of the band’s biggest hits, ‘Rock The Casbah’.
