Atlantis
"Atlantis" is one of the several works created in Rome in 1946 that mirror the artist's state of mind after the unfortunate events that happened in the world and to him personally during the World War II. Through this mythological theme, Meštrović brings the personification of the lost ancient highly developed community of Atlantis in relation to the catastrophic consequences of war on the modern society. A highly expressive visual language corresponds to the dramatic theme.
