Perhaps painted c.1845 (cf. Raffet, 'The Surrender at Ulm', P745). Acre was attacked unsuccessfully by the French eight times during Napoleon’s Syrian campaign of 1799. The uniforms of the foreground soldiers, however, belong to a later date.
