Even in 1950, building Formula One cars was an expensive activity so motor racing enthusiasts were asked to support the ambitious BRM V16 project by joining the British Racing Motors Association to help crowdfund the project.
The BRM was Britain’s great hope for Grand Prix success in the post-war years and had already attracted the backing and support of British companies like Rubery Owen, Lucas, Rolls-Royce and Standard.
Even with this backing the membership application still gloriously stated: “the future of British racing is in your hands!”
