Commuters!

Ellie Preston talks about this work as follows: "When I used to commute to London, I saw the same people, every day. No-one spoke to anyone else. In the carriage, there was a stale atmosphere and a strong sense of world-weariness. The baby is an attempt to express the level of latent desperation. If you have ever sat in a carriage with a crying baby, you will know how unbearable it can be. By painting the baby larger than life, I also wanted to hint at the sadness of the connection between the men opposite me and the ghost of their younger selves."
