The German writer Ludwig Tieck described Michelangelo’s fresco of the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel as showing "the whole world, past and future… pressed close together in a superhuman, bold poem". Conrad Martin Metz reproduced the whole composition in small sections featuring different groups such as the Damned and the Blessed. These prints further increased the fame of Michelangelo’s monumental work, especially in Britain.
