A white pine corner cupboard in the Palladian architectural style. Features a glazed multi-pained arched door over a four raised paneled lower door. Arch decorated with carved keystone and flanked by raised panel spandrels. The top has a molded cornice consisting of a cyma recta, fillet and ogee profile. The cornice projects out and around the keystone. The upper door encloses three molded shelves set into a semicircular casing. The shelves are flanked by double fluted pilasters with pulvinated friezes. The arched top consists of a carved shell whose ribs converge on a semi-spherical element from which is suspended an engaged turned drop finial. The bottom door encloses a shelf. The surface is stained light walnut color and the hardware is made of iron and brass.
Provenance Narrative
Corner cupboard to the left of the door as you enter. Made for the New Hampshire period room. In the 1927 "Revised Edition" Wallace Nutting Catalog, this item cost $430.00. Nutting referred to the finish as "amber" or "old maple."
