The Mystic Marriage of Saint Catherine (after Fetti)
This painting is copied after a picture by Domenico Fetti in the Kunsthistorisches Musem, Vienna. It is one example of a number of paintings Teniers made from the collection of the Archduke Leopold Wilhelm, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands, 1646-56 (see also P636 and P637). The copies were commissioned in 1651 as models for the engravings in the illustrated catalogue of Leopold’s collection, the Theatrum Pictorium, published in Antwerp in 1660.
