Design for a Chimneypiece

The fireplace is framed by the upper part of a molded frame standing upon a base; its frieze shows a band of palmettes and buds. Laterally and rededing are pilaster strips. They have above volutes and masks, the foliated one of a man at left, a female one with a vine wreath and above a striped garland, at right. Above an entablature is shown with two alternating suggestions for its form and ornamentation. The oblong between the inner frame and the entablature is filled by a relief. Children are in two boats with a Naiade swimming in between. A child in the left boar shoots with a bow at a stag running at the shore. Two children in the right boat fish with a net.
