Still life: Plums, Melons and Peaches

This artist was almost entirely neglected before the 1930's, yet he is one of the masters of early French 17th century still life. He is valued for the sobriety and grave simplicity of his paintings and for the sure sense of interval he demonstrates in them. His work invites comparison with that of the Spanish still-life painters of the first half of the 17th century.

He was, with Louise Moillon, Lubin Baugin and Sebastien Stosskopff, one of the pioneers of the genre of still-life painting in France.
