Melania Trump born 1970

Born Novo Mesto, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia) First Lady 2017–

Melania Knauss Trump, shown here in her official White House portrait, was born in Slovenia when it was part of the former Yugoslavia. After Louisa Catherine Adams, Trump is only the second first lady to have been born outside of the United States. Since being thrust onto the public stage during her husband Donald Trump’s run for president in 2016, she has quietly focused on raising their son, Barron, and on social welfare-oriented nonprofit work with organizations such as the Red Cross.

Melania Trump’s commitment to the welfare of children has been realized through her Be Best campaign, which supports children’s well-being with a focus on three specific issues: online safety, anti-bullying, and combatting opioid abuse. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, she actively used her @FLOTUS Twitter account to promote information on health and safety while encouraging parents to remain attentive to the needs of their children.
