Model of a four-legged gin

Defensive artillery was extremely heavy as a rule and therefore not very mobile. However, heavy artillery could be moved and placed on a mount, such as a gun carriage, using a gin – a kind of hoist. There was also a more mobile version of this hoist, the field gin (on display nearby).
