Charis works mainly in oil paints, although he has recently expanded into working in animation. His works depict tangential scenes that aim to focus on mood more than narrative, but narrative is usually still there, typically centred around relationships.
"Although my ideas stem from melancholia they tend to lean towards its more comical features, namely narcissism and loneliness. I try to create imagery that is able to carry a morbid subtext in easily accessible images. This is not to say that the paintings are of sad imagery masquerading as something else, but more that they have an awareness of sadness, that is immanent but hopefully not too explicit. Despite my medium being oils, I’m inspired by film, fashion photography, music, and illustration, where I feel it’s understood that the medium's purpose is to show ideas that are enjoyed as imitations rather than truths."
