Moult II
Moult is a series of 12 pieces, each formed with paper infused with encaustic wax. Their creamy coloring takes on different hues and levels of translucency as light passes through the paper. Crinkles, ridges and scars cast small shadows, documenting where the artist has worked and shaped their forms. Inspired by exoskeletons, this series seems to mimic protective outer layers of animals. Gaunt explains the delight in coming across an invertebrate casing. The discovery leads one to question if they are viewing the animal itself or its shedding. Finding Guant’s Moult series evokes similar wonder and sense of discovery.
