Edvard Grieg accompanying his Wife

During the 19th century, mobility increased and artists’ networks expanded. Ties were made across the borders in the Nordic region to a greater extent than ever before. The Danish artist Krøyer was a friend of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg and his wife, who spent winters in Copenhagen. Preserved letters talk about how Krøyer asks to paint the couple in evening light, and he wished that they played and sang, and not just posed for him.
