Roddy Moreno

Roddy Moreno, 64, Grangetown, Cardiff is a skinhead and anti-fascist. Age hasn’t dimmed Roddy’s love of music. Still touring the world with Oi! band ‘The Oppressed’, Roddy says, “It’s like they say, age is just a number, and it is. Do you want to still enjoy life? Or do you want to just settle into misery? I feel sorry for those who settle for the misery”.

In Jon Pountney's own words:

“So Roddy was someone that I’ve worked with before and thought he would be great for this project. I worked with him in the Summer of 2020 in a project in St Mellon’s in Cardiff which is about the east of Cardiff communities in east of Cardiff. And that was to try and show, kind of, optimistic and sunny picture of that side of town as it were and then that was shown outdoors in Cardiff last year. So straight away I thought he’d be a great fit for this. He’s been, the genre is… oh yeah everyone keeps calling him a punk rocker but it’s actually Oi! and he’s an anti-fascist punk musician, he’s just hilarious, great to be around, loads of energy! And then the day that he turned up to shoot he’d just bought a new scooter. So that made it into the photos. I wasn’t massively pleased with the first set of photos ‘cos of the light, it’s not my kind of light, it’s very flat, so he, he let me know that he was going over to Barry on the scooters on the Sunday afternoon. We were actually in Porthcawl at the time so we whizzed over and managed to get pictures of him over there which really did, really did tell the story I wanted to tell. I was much happier with those pictures.”
