Rooster or cockrel shaped metal weathervane; feet secured to a copper sphere; body is formed of lead, tailfeathers constructed as eight arching segments cut from flat sheet metal. His comb is erect and his beak parted. Traces of gilt remain overall. The weathervane was mounted on a wooden base in the 20th century.
Provenance Narrative
Based on research in 2006 it seems likely the weathervane may have been constructed ca 1836 for St. John's Methodist Church in Watertown, MA. The maker is unknown.
