Round Insert from a Coptic Tunic or Shawl

Unknown Artist

This tapestry‑woven roundel was once inserted in a Coptic tunic or shawl. In the center it depicts a haloed female bust within a border of beadlike elements and an outer border containing four lions and vegetal motifs. Like most Coptic textiles, it probably was unearthed from a burial site in Egypt.
