Object Image

Luke’s work often addresses the relationship between objects and the space around them, forming fictional spaces which are used to push away the chaos of reality while ‘real-world’ objects act anchor-like, ensuring a return to reality is possible. This is directly linked to Luke’s personal trauma of a fire at his family home, his experience of mental illness within his family and the subsequent deterioration of his family unit.

“Staffordshire ceramic figures and objects of curiosity were obsessively collected by my mentally ill mother throughout my childhood. Watching the breakdown of family members, I’ve seen first-hand how the mind becomes obsessive, tricking itself into thinking it has control and amplifying the importance of decorative objects. Through this piece I am exploring how these objects create their own narrative and I aim to encapsulate this within a refined, small space.”
