Flat shoe with tan wool twill upper and tongue, and tan leather heel and toe foxing; round vamp throatline with large black plain weave silk ribbon bow on instep; 1/8" wide brown plain weave silk ribbon binding around upper, tongue, and seam joining heel foxing with cloth top; no binding on seam joining the toe foxing and cloth top; seam down the center front and back of cloth top; four sets of eyelets on medial side; vamp and quarters lined with natural color plain weave linen; white leather insole; straight last leather sole.
Provenance Narrative
According to donor history, these shoes were worn by Vina (Levina) Boardman (1772 or 1775-1865) in Connecticut. She was born in Middletown, CT and she married Ephraim Scoville (1771-1859) in 1793.
