Side chair (90.142.2)

Part of a pair of painted side chairs with caned seats. The stiles are square in shape and outward turning when they are joined underneath the crest rail. The crest rail is outward bending as well as being curved inward to form to the sitter's back. The crest rail is painted with a floral design. The splat is a button-back design and is painted with a similar floral design as the crest rail. The seat is curved, making the front seat rail the highest point. The front legs are turned and terminate with small ball feet. The front stretcher is flat and slightly arched upwards. The remaining five stretchers are flat and plain. There are painted details on the legs and stiles.
