A mahogany late classical style sofa having scrolled arms and back. Scrolls carved with acanthus leafage emanating from a central volutes. The front seat rail is pulvinated and veneered with figured mahogany. The front legs are carved with scrolls and stylized acanthus leafage with lions paw feet. The rear legs are turned. Upholstered in a modern red and yellow damask rococo revival fabric edged with tape trim.
Provenance Narrative Made out of Mahogany, mahogany veneer with white pine secondary. According to donors, this sofa originally belonged to John Witherspoon Scott (1800-1892) the father of First Lady Caroline Scott Harrison.
