Relations was the first American commission for an architectural work by Libenský and Brychtová, and their last architectural commission together before Libenský passed away. It consists of ten cast glass panels—five hanging from the ceiling and five mounted to the floor—that feature two intersecting elliptical forms, one concave and one convex. The contrast between convex and concave surfaces creates internal kinetic effects of both light and color from the surroundings.

Relations was originally created for the Mint Museum of Craft + Design’s building at 220 North Tryon Street in Charlotte, where it marked the entrance to the galleries of craft and design off the museum’s atrium. The public was invited to watch its installation in 2001. When the museum moved to its present location at 500 South Tryon Street in 2010, Relations was reinstalled in its gallery of glass art. The building’s design includes reinforcements in the floor and ceiling especially for Relations.
