This impression was made from a cancelled plate. The print had been published by Whistler in November 1858 in "Douze eaux-fortes d’après nature" (Twelve Etchings from Nature), known as the "French Set" (see 17.3.19, 17.3.20 for examples of the second state from the "French Set" and 67.630.53 for a third state published by the Fine Art Society, London).
