The Upward Journey

Bourgeois returned to printmaking in the late 1980s after a decades-long hiatus and became extremely active in the medium in the 1990s and 2000s. She printed these four compositions first with only black ink, and then came back to them, experimenting with hand coloring. She liked having a series of the same images that she could re-envision to reflect her changing moods.
