Seated Woman

It has been suggested that this work is a portrait of Maria Sacchi, an elderly resident of the Milanese apartment building in which Boccioni was living around 1907, and who sat for the artist on several occasions. Images of women in domestic interiors – often engaged in sewing or other household tasks – were a recurring feature of Boccioni’s oeuvre, and continued to be so following his ‘conversion’ to Futurism around 1910.
