Left-hand dagger and sheath
Left-hand daggers were used when fighting a duel to parry an opponent's sword-thrust. They were often made to match a rapier, and also to accessorise with a gentleman's outfit. For more on this type of weapon see acc. no. 5145. The style of this hilt suggests it was made in England, but it is difficult to be certain.
