Vase in the form of willow-leaf
The pink glaze used on these vases was achieved by blowing copper pigment onto clear glaze, then covering it with another layer of clear glaze before firing. The temperamental behavior of copper in the kiln, which is difficult to control, determined how the glaze colors would appear. In China the glaze is called "jiang dou hong" (bean red); however it is commonly translated as "peach bloom."
