View from My Window in Rome (recto) Soldier in a Landscape (verso)

From the early 1700s to the late 1800s, the Tischbein family produced 28 artists and artisans who were active in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. Carl Ludwig Tischbein first went to Italy in 1819, and by 1825 he was a professor of drawing at the Academy of Rome. This charming view of rooftops and walled gardens is made more immediate by the presence of the cat.
