Washtub Voyeur

'Washtub Voyeur' presents an insight into the mind of a voyeur whose compulsive obsession with facial anatomy turns their camera into an erotic tool for self-pleasure. The format of Super 8mm is tactile and nostalgic as the physicality of the development process means the character remains in tandem with the memory of their subject. The film is a catalyst to a body of work that explores observation, the physical presence of the cameraperson and how their moral responsibilities coincide with looking and recording. The work pays homage to Miroslav Tichý, Gordon Matta Clark’s 'Chinatown Voyeur' (1971) and Annabel Nicholson’s concept of “what happens to the things when they’re not being looked at.”

Sol says: "Whatever I make, I am a voyeur; I am unable to disassociate my gaze from my subject, regardless of camera-barrier."
