Windsor chair (76.11)

A comb-back windsor armchair with a U-shaped saddle seat and spindles in the center of the back and supporting the arms. Seat is carved to follow body contours, has a central pommel.

Emerging from the seat are six spindles in the center back, extend through the low back to form the top additional to the chair. These spindles are topped with a comb or cupid's bow. The comb has a concave curve. The ears of the comb are decorated with swirl-carved volutes.

Four spindles emerge from the slat in each side to support the curved arms. The tops of the spindles pass through the arms and appear on the top of the arms. A baluster turned spindle supports the end of each arm.

Blunt arrow design legs, typical of Philadelphia--ball foot, narrow ring, and a bun, main part of the leg is slightly tapered and topped with a vase shaped section. Turned H-stretcher.
