The Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK) has launched a new Smartify-powered digital visitor guide, supporting audiences as they explore Belgium's oldest museum collections, and one of the oldest in Europe!

Founded in 1798, MSK preserves nearly 20,000 works of art, spanning European painting, sculpture, and works on paper from the Middle Ages to the present day. With thousands of objects on display across permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions, the museum sought a digital solution that could offer clarity, flexibility, and depth — without overwhelming the physical space.

Smartify partnered with MSK to deliver a custom-branded web app that works seamlessly on your browser or any device, with no download required. The guide, along with our signature object recognition, gives visitors easy access to rich interpretation for objects and artworks throughout the museum.

Personalised tours allow audiences to shape their experience around their interests, available time, or access needs. They are accompanied by a range of traditional audio guides that offer multiple ways to engage with the collection, from curatorial insight to audio descriptions and thematic storytelling. Alongside interpretation, the digital guide also hosts clear visitor information, bringing together practical details in one accessible place. This creates a smoother, more joined-up experience for visitors, before, during, and after their visit.

Behind the scenes, the Smartify platform gives the MSK team a flexible foundation for the future as content can be updated centrally and expanded over time, supporting new exhibitions, tours, and digital initiatives through a single dashboard.

By combining thoughtful design with a powerful platform, Smartify helps MSK continue its long-standing mission: using art to connect people, ideas, and histories — now through a digital experience built to evolve with the museum.

The Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK) is open Tuesday-Sunday, and you can plan your visit here. Download the Smartify app or access our web guide to make the most of your experience.
